Proper watering of cyclamen

The refined perennial plant - cyclamen, or alpine violet - needs special care. In order for the flower to always delight you, you need to know some of the rules and subtleties of its watering. This article will look at how to properly water cyclamen at home.

Differences in watering home and garden plants

The main difference is the area that needs to be watered. After all, the gardens are much more, and you can water them as you please: they use hoses, special irrigation systems and simple, familiar watering cans, and sometimes just buckets of water. When it comes to home cultures, even if simple and unpretentious, the possibilities are somewhat reduced.

For each plant, an optimal irrigation option is selected from the three existing:

  • using a special little cure;
  • using pallets;
  • placing the plant for some time in a container of water.
Did you know? According to the language of flowers, cyclamen means farewell. It would be appropriate to donate it, for example, to a colleague who decided to change jobs.

How to water different varieties

Different varieties of cyclamen do not differ in care. Therefore, it is important to understand how and how much to water the flower as a whole. The plant needs to provide a room with high humidity, good but diffused lighting (an excellent solution would be to shade the flower a little with tulle), as well as the correct temperature conditions.

Plants that do not tolerate heat: begonia, streptokarpus, heather, muraya, ampelous petunia, room fern, cypress.
Watering should be done with a thin spout with a thin spout strictly along the edges of the pot so that there is no direct water on the tuber. Often also use watering with a pallet. The remaining water must be drained after an hour. Cyclamen does not like cold water. It is best to use water at room temperature. Water cyclamen need not too often and moderately. In order to navigate how often a flower needs watering, you need to monitor its life periods. In general, the intervals between watering should be 1-2 weeks.

Important! For cyclamen, excessive watering is most dangerous, as the flower tuber is prone to decay.

Watering features

Cyclamen - not very fastidious plant. But for its successful cultivation you need to know how it should be watered and in what period. Watering can also be affected by the conditions in which the flower grows. The better they are, the more fluid may be required.

Cyclamen begins to bloom in the fall and ends in the middle or late spring. Focusing on his life cycle, let's look at some of the rules.

After transplant

Cyclamen is transplanted in the spring when it ceases to bloom. With the beginning of the spring period, it is necessary to gradually reduce the amount of water for irrigation. After the procedure for removing dried leaves and the transplant itself, the amount of water does not need to be changed. We increase it only with the onset of summer, adding sprays - no more than 3 per day.

Important! It is necessary to reduce and increase the amount of water gradually!

During flowering

During flowering, watering cyclamen should be the most abundant. The most important thing is not to moisten the soil too much, just do not let it dry, and let's not let the water stagnate. This is done about 2 times a week. Water should be soft, defend it. Never water cyclamen with cold water - it should be at room temperature. When the plant has faded, watering should be gradually reduced and watered only to avoid drying out the soil. This mode will allow your cyclamen "rest".

Add liquid fertilizer

Of the variety of nitrogen, potassium and complex fertilizers when growing cyclamen, it is worthwhile to give preference to potassium. When making it necessary to carefully monitor that the fertilizer does not fall on the leaves, shoots and flowers.

Important! Fertilize during or after irrigation. Adding to dry soil can cause plant burns. After transplanting fertilizer can not be applied for another three weeks.
Fertilize cyclamen according to the instructions of the drug of your choice. It is very good to not immediately dispense the whole dose, but to distribute it into two parts and deposit it with an interval of 5 days.

The advantages of liquid fertilizers:

  • the smallest losses when making;
  • good distribution;
  • positive impact on the ground;
  • non-toxic, non-toxic.
Disadvantages:

  • incomplete absorption of phosphates.

Watering with various infusions: folk remedies, analysis of methods and recipes

As an additional source of beneficial substances that contribute to the better viability of cyclamen, you can pour it with various solutions and infusions. There are many folk remedies, some suitable for cyclamen, we will discuss below.

Did you know? In the French books of the XYIII century there is mention of the fact that cyclamen was previously used as feed for pigs, in order to later give the meat a refined smell.

Preparation and application of the solution with yeast

One of the dressings, which is most similar to dressing with standard mineral fertilizers. Yeast accelerates the positive processes in the soil, nourishes it and has a beneficial effect on the culture itself.

This infusion is better to use 2-3 times a year. It can be used for better growth, as well as before flowering.

To prepare the infusion of dry yeast, you need 1 g of yeast and 1 tsp. sugar per 1 liter of water. When all ingredients are mixed, it is necessary to allow the liquid to infuse for 3 hours. For watering the infusion should be diluted with water in the ratio of 1 part of infusion to 5 parts of water.

You can also use live yeast. To do this, for 1 liter of water you need to take 200 g of live yeast. For watering the infusion must be diluted in a ratio of 1:10.

Top ash

This is one of the most effective fertilizers. At the same time it is absolutely safe, contains many nutrients and is well tolerated by plants. In addition, this dressing perfectly disinfects the soil.

You can not make the infusion, but just for transplanting to mix the ash with the ground in the ratio of 1:50.

Infusion is done with the calculation of 3 tbsp. l wood ash to 1 liter of water. Subsequently, the solution does not need to be diluted with water. Let it stand for a week, and they can be safely watered.

Tincture for cyclamen from sugar

Flowers, like people, need glucose. But its absorption is not so easy. If inadequate to contribute to the absorption of sugar, then it will nourish processes harmful to culture. Therefore, in order not to harm the infusion of sugar to your cyclamen, use it in a complex with preparations containing active microorganisms. Sugar plants can be fed no more than once a month.

Orchid, geranium, primula, arrowroot, indoor ivy, asplenium, chervil prefers shady terrain.
In order to prepare the infusion, dissolve 1 tbsp. l sugar in 1 liter of water. For greater efficiency, sugar can be replaced with glucose tablets - 1 tablet per liter of water.

Dried banana peel as a fertilizer

Banana peel is rich in potassium, which is very fond of cyclamen.

In order to prepare the infusion, you need:

  • pre-wash the peel and chop it finely;
  • half-fill the one-liter jar peeled;
  • fill the jar with water and let it stand for a day;
  • Pour the liquid from the jar into another container and fill it with water so that the solution is 1 liter.

Adding water-retaining material to the soil: advantages and disadvantages

Plants that need a lot of water and, moreover, it is important not to pour culture, can help a variety of water-retaining materials. They can be mineral and organic. Perlite, vermiculite and agroperlite, which is used for indoor plants, are referred to as mineral. From organic emit peat and hydrogel.

The advantages of water-retaining materials include:

  • the ability to personally adjust the feeding;
  • less water;
  • the most complete assimilation of useful elements by the plant;
  • there is no need to use various pesticides;
  • root system is very accessible.
Important! Cyclamen is poisonous for dogs and cats!
Disadvantages of water retention materials:

  • in contrast to the soil, which provides stability to the roots, can quickly multiply your mistakes and omissions in care, which will lead to the death of the plant;
  • do not tolerate heat;
  • high price;
  • may not apply to all plants.

What can cause an excess of moisture, as the appearance can determine the need for watering

Excess moisture when growing cyclamen leads to rotting of the tuber and the death of the plant. It is possible to determine that the plant is overwetted, by yellowing and withering leaves, by the way the root system begins to rot.

But even such a plant can be saved - remove from the pot, dry and transplant.

When the cyclamen does not have enough water, the leaves just start to wither, without yellowing. Then you need to start gradually introducing more water, and watering with the help of immersion will also be effective.

Automatic irrigation systems: their advantages and disadvantages

When there is a need to go somewhere, and sometimes for a long time, and there is no one to water your favorite plants, an automatic watering system for home plants can help out. But before investing in the purchase of such an assistant or try to make it yourself from improvised means, it is worth considering all the advantages and disadvantages.

Benefits:

  • the ability to leave the plants for a long time without worrying about their death;
  • the ability to purchase irrigation systems for 8 or more plants at once;
  • the ability to set a watering timer on some models;
Disadvantages:

  • great dependence on electricity in appliances with an electric pump;
  • rapid pollution and cessation of water supply in systems with passive irrigation;
  • limited amount of water.
Do not be afraid of cyclamen, thinking that he is whimsical and difficult to care for. One has only to remember some rules and tricks, and also not to forget to devote some time to caring for a flower, so that it infinitely pleased you with cold winters when there is so little greenery.
