Icelandic developers have created biodegradable packaging for meat

Design studio Reykjavík At10 has created a bioplastic material for meat packaging called Bioplastic Skin.

This type of material can be used to package and seal hot dogs or sliced ​​ham and has the appearance of plastic due to its transparency and texture. The material is made by boiling the skin of animals in water. The process releases collagen and gelatin, creating a gel-like substance that can be molded into any desired shape.

Animal skins are often considered a by-product in the meat industry, and if we decide to consume meat, our duty is dispose of the entire animal and do it with as little pollution as possible on our planet, ”the studio explained, before presenting its innovative packaging material on Design March in Reykjavik.

According to At10, a biodegradable material is seen as a substitute for plastic in several packaging concepts, which helps protect the environment.
