You grow, grow, my Balsam - the secrets of planting and transplanting

Balsam, Spark, Vanka wet, Impatiens - so many names for this houseplant. Growing it is easy, and the result is simply amazing.

Planting a flower in a pot is simple, but there are some features that need to be considered for the plant to grow well and bloom.

How to plant?

There are no special secrets for planting this flower. It is important to just pick up the soil and pot.

We select the right ground

This houseplant prefers light, loose, slightly acidic and not very nutritious land. A soil rich in organic matter, minerals and nitrogen will lead to the fact that there will be a lot of lush foliage and few or no flowers. On too poor soil, the flower will grow worse and bloom.

    There are three substat options:

  1. In equal parts take humus, compost, turf, perlite.
  2. Mix two parts of leafy ground and one part of peat and river sand. This mixture must be disinfected before planting.
  3. Purchase in the store substat for flowering plants.

Any of these options are perfect for planting or transplanting Vanka wet. Do not forget about the drainage layer. When landing on the bottom of the pot a layer of 2-3 cm is necessary to lay expanded clay, small pebbles, etc. in order to avoid stagnation of water and rotting of the roots.

Which pot is better to choose?

Material for the pot can take any: plastic, clay, ceramics. Balsam is picky in this regard. But with the diameter of the pot, the situation is different.

Flowering plants will come when the root system completely fills the space inside the pot. That is why deep, wide pots are not suitable for balsam.

When planting in a large pot, the flower will grow into a bush, and you can forget about flowering.

The ideal would be a small, shallow, even cramped flowerpot.

Or, as an option, two or three cuttings with flowers of different colors can be planted in a large pots. Then the roots will quickly cover the ground, and flowering will be unusually spectacular.

What time of year is best to plant?

The best time to plant a seed is time. increase daylight hoursthat is, the end of February or the beginning of March.

Plant rooted cuttings for plant reproduction can be year-round.

Does it need a transplant?

Transplant for Vanka wet is extremely important. This plant very quickly picks up substances necessary for growth from the soil and needs to be replaced with soil.

Some growers recommend every two to three years to rejuvenate the plant by grafting.

The three-year-old balsam loses its attractiveness and decorativeness: its shoots become thinner and longer, the flowering is not so lush and plentiful.

When should I repot?

  • Planned transplanting. In this case, the need to replace the soil, pruning stretched and lost decorative shoots. Old land is exhausted and dries quickly.

When transplanting the plant grows better, the root system receives additional volume for growth, there is increased access of water and air.

  • After the purchase. Freshly bought balsam should definitely be transplanted into a new pot and fresh ground.

But it should be remembered that the flowering plant can not be transplanted.

  • The flower became crowded. If the roots began to show up from the drainage hole, then it’s time for the balsam to change the pot.

For further development, the plant just needs more space.
A new pot should be larger than the previous one by 1-2 cm in diameter.

The best time to transplant

Replace Vanya wet usually recommend once a year in spring. But many flower growers transplant a flower twice: in spring and autumn.

Spring transfer is a must.

Over the year, the soil loses its nutritional properties, and the plant begins to starve. A day before transplanting, you need to water the flower abundantly. Then gently remove it from the pot, cut off the old and dry roots. Transplantation should be done quickly, so that young roots do not have time to dry. After that, the earth is rammed and well watered. Now you need to put the pot in a dark place for a few days.

In the summer, shoots are pulled out, so planting the plant in the fall will return it decorative.
