"Blueberry as a delicacy": Ukraine will begin to grow the most expensive berries in pots with water

This unusual decision was announced by the Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Horticulture NAAS, Alexander Yarechenko. He also added that blueberries will be grown in special hydroponic vases.

Since blueberries are considered to be a berry that practically does not grow on the territory of Ukraine and can be delivered to supermarket shelves from Finland or Russia, Ukrainian researchers decided to reduce the cost of the berry and learn how to grow it artificially. The only areas where blueberries can live in Ukraine are considered to be the marshland of the Carpathians or artificially planted plantations with a wet and cold climate, mainly in the northern regions of the country.

Berry will be grown by the method of hydroponics, technology that is popular in the United States, China and in Europe. Growing will take place exclusively on water, without soil. This method allows you to grow all those crops that in our climate is risky to plant in open ground. Hydroponics also saves land and is considered environmentally friendly.

At the moment, the average price per kilogram of blueberries can vary from 150 to 200 UAH, depending on the quality of the variety of the grown berries.
