How to give "Metronidazole" turkey poults

Many farmers are faced with bird diseases that are caused by bacterial infections. Unless urgent action is taken, a massive fall is inevitable. Antibiotics are the best way to get rid of the simplest parasites and other harmful microorganisms. Turkey poults in such situations are most often prescribed Metronidazole, which will be discussed further.

Composition, release form, packaging

The drug is available in the form of tablets or granules, white or white-yellow.

Composition:

  • metronidazole (active ingredient);
  • microcrystalline cellulose;
  • calcium stearate;
  • potato starch.

Did you know? Antibiotics are of two types: the first destroy bacteria (bactericidal), and the second does not allow them to multiply (bacteriostatic).

Tablets are available in plastic packaging of 250 or 1000 pieces. The granulate is packaged in 250, 500 and 1000 g.

Spectrum of action

"Metronidazole" is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibiotic. This antimicrobial drug effectively destroys unicellular organisms such as protozoan parasites and anaerobic bacteria.

The active substance is easily absorbed in the digestive tract. It is processed in the liver, it is partially excreted (5-15%), and also excreted by the kidneys (60-80%).

What helps

This antibiotic is effective in the presence of the following diseases:

  • histomoniasis;
  • sinusitis;
  • infectious rhinitis;
  • coccidiosis;
  • trichomoniasis;
  • tuberculosis.

How to give turkey poults

For the treatment of birds, you can use two methods - give turkey poults with diluted tablets or add pellets to the feed.

Did you know? Gastomonosis is sometimes called the "black head". Due to stagnation, the skin on the head becomes blue-black.

Dosage in tablets

"Metronidazole" is produced in the form of tablets with different amounts of the active substance. There are tablets with 50% and with 25% of its content.

The dosage is calculated on the live weight of the body and depends on the amount of metronidazole:

  • 25% (0.125 mg) - one tablet for every 12.5 kg of bird weight;
  • 50% (0,250 mg) - one tablet per 25 kg of weight.
It is necessary to give medicine twice a day.

Water dosage

Dilution of medication with water is possible. The dosage is selected depending on the amount of metronidazole in the composition (calculation is given above). For one kilogram of poultry body weight, it is necessary to take 0.1 mg of the active substance.

Tablets pounded and added to the drinker, can also be poured into the beak of a pipette or syringe. It is certainly easier to pour the liquid into the drinker, but it is worth remembering that metronidazole is poorly soluble in water (sediment remains). It is better to pour the poults into the beak through the pipette - so it will be a guarantee that all birds will actually take the medicine.

Important! Gystomonosis is exposed to youngsters under the age of three months. Adult turkeys suffer very rarely.

Add to feed

A simple and effective way is to add medicine to the feed. The calculation at the same time will be the next - 1.5 g of active ingredient per 1 kg of feed. That is, 12 tablets with a content of 25% or 6 - from 50% per kilogram of food.

The course of treatment, regardless of the method chosen, lasts 10 days.

Contraindications and side effects

Contraindications to the use of an individual intolerance to the drug. In the event of an allergic reaction, treatment should be stopped immediately, and the bird should be shown to the veterinarian.

Shelf life and storage conditions

Store the drug must be in the original packaging, in the room without exposure to sunlight. The temperature at which storage is possible is from -10 ° C to 40 ° C.

Shelf life is two years.

Analogs

Analogues of this antibiotic are substances with identical active substance - metronidazole, such as:

  • "Trichopol";
  • "Metrovet";
  • "Metronid";
  • Flagyl;
  • "Stomorgil".

Important! The histomoniasis can start due to the fact that before the settlement of the poults the disinfection of the poultry house was carried out in bad faith.

"Metronidazole", being a broad spectrum antibiotic, effectively fights against various infections. However, do not rush to independently give it to the birds. Only a veterinarian should establish an accurate diagnosis and prescribe treatment.
